Overview

Paver patios, walkways, and steps in New Jersey

Hardscaping is what stays put when everything else goes dormant. Patios, walkways, steps, and the borders that hold them. In New Jersey the ground moves every winter. The difference between a patio that lasts and one that ripples is underground, not on the surface.

Base depth, compaction, and drainage decide how a patio holds up. Industry practice runs four to six inches of compacted stone under pedestrian pavers, deeper where vehicles cross. Edge restraint locks the perimeter so the field cannot spread. That work is invisible and it is the whole job.

  • Excavation and compacted stone base in lifts
  • Edge restraint installed on every perimeter
  • Patios pitched away from the house for drainage
  • One-year warranty on materials and labor, in writing
What We Cover

What our hardscaping service covers in New Jersey

Six hardscaping services under one contractor, from the excavation and base work to the last cut paver along the border.

01

Hardscape Installation in New Jersey

Hardscape installation in New Jersey starts with excavation, a compacted stone base, and drainage. Residential and commercial hardscaping covers patios, walkways, steps, and the grading around them. The base is what fails first, so that is where most of the time goes.

02

Paver Installation in New Jersey

Paver installation in New Jersey using concrete and interlocking pavers set on compacted stone. Edge restraint, bedding sand, and polymeric joint sand keep the field tight and level. Cuts are made on site with a saw, so borders and curves finish clean.

03

Paver Patios in New Jersey

Paver patios in New Jersey sized for the furniture, the grill, and traffic. Patio pavers come in several colors, textures, and laying patterns, including herringbone and running bond. Borders, inlays, and step-downs get picked before the first base course ever goes in.

04

Patio Installation in New Jersey

Patio installation in New Jersey, from layout and excavation to the final joint sand. Patios are pitched away from the house so water runs off instead of pooling. Existing patio replacement includes hauling out the old concrete slab or the settled pavers.

05

Walkway Installation in New Jersey

Walkway installation in New Jersey for front entries, side yards, and garden paths. Paver walkways are cut to follow the grade, so nobody trips on a lifted edge. Width gets set for two people walking side by side, not for one person.

06

Paver Steps in New Jersey

Paver steps in New Jersey for front entries, patio drops, and sloped backyards. Risers and treads are kept consistent, because uneven steps are the ones people fall on. Steps get tied into the patio or the retaining wall, never stacked against it.

Frequently Asked

Paver and patio questions we get in New Jersey

How much does a paver patio cost in New Jersey?

Square footage drives most of it, then the paver you choose and how much excavation the yard needs. A flat backyard prices differently than one on a slope. We’ll measure, put it in writing, and there’s no charge for that.

How deep does the base need to be?

For foot traffic, four to six inches of compacted stone is the range most of the trade works to, and more where a vehicle drives over it. It gets compacted in lifts, not all at once. That’s the part that decides everything.

How long does a paver patio take to build?

Depends on size, access, and what’s already there. Tearing out an old concrete slab adds a day or two before anything new starts. We’ll give you a start date and a finish window with the written estimate.

Will the pavers settle or shift over time?

Not if the base was done right. Settling almost always traces back to thin base, poor compaction, or no edge restraint. That’s why the boring part gets the time. If something moves inside the warranty year, we come back.

Can you replace an existing patio?

Yes. Old concrete slabs, cracked pavers, and settled patios get torn out and hauled off before the new base goes in. Mention it when we come measure, since the demo affects both the price and the schedule.

Do you do walkways and steps too, or only patios?

All of it. Walkway installation, paver steps, entry pads, and the grading around them. Most jobs end up being more than one piece anyway, since a patio usually needs a walkway to reach it.
